What is 2D in 3D?

Nowadays, 2D drawings are the main detailed design documentation during construction and operation of the facility. But it is noticeable that transformation of 2D drawings into informational 3D models is gaining more and more popularity.

Key differences between 2D drawings and BIM models are:
the elements of a 3D model are volumetric and information-filled unity for all participants in design and construction, allowing it to remain consistent and coordinated at all stages of object’s life cycle.
